My love for walking definitely did not begin at a young age. My mom often reminds me of how as a child, I would often sit in the middle of the road refusing to walk. As an adult, I love walking and hiking. Over 10 years ago, I did a 5 day hike to Machu Pichu and enjoyed every moment of it (well maybe not sleeping outside in sub zero temperatures), but all the actual hiking.

I’m lucky that we now live in a city with ample opportunity to hike and explore. Hiking is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of HK, but there are actually many many wonderful hikes if you step outside the main city centre. I have been pleasantly surprised by how green the country is.

We have been wanting to explore the greener side for awhile now, but again the scorching heat made that near impossible. The weather has finally started to cool down a little (yay) and we finally had the chance to go on our first hike a few weekends ago. We didn’t even have to venture far - the hike started from literally the end of the road we live on, which is a good thing since we had our three baggages in tow. Luckily only one had to actually be carried! (And he was the one who wanted to walk!)

The walk up was quite steep - it was about a kilometer (i think) of stairs all the way to the top. Surprisingly, both girls actually made it all the way, even S (who i had my serious doubts about). In fact, S was the one that wanted to keep going when we were contemplating whether to turn around. Despite the slight breeze when we started off, by the time we were halfway up, our friend the blazing sun was back.

Once we made it to the top, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of Discovery Bay and HK island. The kids of course, were much more interested in exploring the snacks and drinks than the views :)

I can’t wait to explore more of the hikes the city has to offer!
